Bring on the spicy food.....

If you know me...you know I am not too adventurous when it comes to food. I have been known as a 'Plain Jane' of sorts. Well that was until this pregnancy. For the first time I am eating JalapeƱo Poppers and other crazy spicy foods. I crave the spicy and love the burn. My turtle hopes that this new spicy food loving me continues after the baby arrives.

Sydney's Tootsie Roll

Sydney calls the baby 'Tootsie Roll'. We are not sure why. She talks to 'Tootsie Roll' constantly. She pats, rubs, and has conversations with her 'Little Tootsie Roll'. The other day she made up a cheer for the baby. Everything has something to do with tootsie rolls.

Yesterday, she asked Sterling if there was a song about tootsie rolls. He played to for her and she started dancing. She would come over and lift my shirt everytime that song said "Let me see your Tootsie Roll". Not the intended meaning I know, but for our five year old, nothing could have been more perfect.

It's a ........

On Thursday, March 18 we got up early in the morning. We got ready for an important early morning appointment..the appointment. It was the first chance for the kids and Dad to get a live view of our new addition. I think excitement was the consensus. The sonogram went well. Sydney's eyes were glued on the screen. She wanted the baby to be a girl so badly. The technician sealed the secret into an envelope. The countdown until the surprise was revealed had begun.

On Friday, March 19 we got up early in the morning. This time for an adventure. Sydney and Marshall did not know our destination. We traveled three hours to Springfield, Missouri. We would find out the sex our of baby at the kid's favorite place to eat in the whole world, Lambert's.

The tension as Sydney began to open the envelope was unbelievable. Marshall shook with excitement. He grabbed the card and opened it. He read to us all "It's a girl!"

Baby Shelf

Our family was watching the Gold Medal Game in Olympic Hockey(Canada versus USA). During the game, I ate ice cream on mom's belly. Dad said "I was using the baby as a shelf." Mom didn't notice or seem to mind. I love being a big brother.

Baby Crib

We had a big adventure this week. We bought our crib!! It was so exciting. The kids were really trying to help with the process. Sydney was carrying pieces of the crib that were bigger than her. She had a huge grin on her face. She is working on being a good helper and big sister. She was determined. Every morning when she wakes up, she goes over and kisses the crib. Marshall wanted to be involved, but wasn't as dedicated to the task.

Saturday "The Special Day" February 13th

On Saturday, we told our kids about the "news". We went to the kid's favorite restaurant, CiCi's. Dad informed them that something was about to change their life. I unzipped my jacket enough so that they could read the words on my red shirt. "Baby makes the belly go round." Marshall's face immediately turned to the biggest smirk I have ever seen.

Marshall's words:
I really want a boy, no one else wants a boy in my family. Sydney says if it is a boy it will be called Carlos. Dad secretly wants a boy, but if you ask him he will say "I want a girl". Mom does not care, she just wants it to be healthy. If you ask me...I would say every one is happy. Peace Out!

Sydney's words:
I think the baby will be a girl. I think the baby's name will be Carlos. Marshall would like to name the baby Jason. I am very happy that we are going to have a baby. I will be a fantastic big sister. I already know Marshall is a good big brother. He will take good care of the baby. I am happy if it is a boy or a girl..either way I will take good care of the baby.

After lunch, we registered at Babies R Us and went shopping. Marshall got to scan the items and enjoyed being in charge. Sydney looked for anything "monkey". It was a great day for our family. We have so much love to give.

I am excited about the role that both our children will play in this pregnancy. They have already made it so much fun. I love their questions and input!

We found this really cool music for babies. It is remade songs from famous bands and musical artists played like a lullaby. The choices are pretty amazing and some might be unexpected. It is a riot and very entertaining. I think it will be a BIG hit with our baby...already a big hit with us.

Must have....

Belly Sleeves are one of the greatest inventions known to man. I have worn one the last two days and it is unbelievable. I am looking forward to getting several others in different colors. Every pregnant woman should have at least one!

Please not my belly button....

In my first two pregnancies my belly got big. I had stretch marks, no problem. Thankfully, I never had to worry about the belly button popping out thing. I see pregnant women all the time that have had this occur. I would like to avoid it; however, my husband is convinced it will happen this time and soon. I don't want people to see my belly button protruding from my shirt. I can't even begin to tell you the links I would be willing to go to in order to prevent this from happening! If it does happen I will be researching ways to reverse it or at least hide it from the general public.

I will never have chili again....well for the next 6.5 months.

Okay, so I had one bowl of chili last night with the usual cheese and crackers. Two hours later, I have heartburn so bad that I think this is the end. I mean I can't breath, stand up, or even think about putting together a sentence. It was terrible! I decided about 11:30 to go to the ER(worried as the pain moved down into my stomach area). While at the ER, baby got the royal treatment, two sonograms and lots of attention. I got to see baby moving around and watch the heartbeat. I can't get enough...it is so cool to watch a life grow inside of you.
All this sonogram studying has brought me to some realizations. This baby may be a Broadway dancer or a serious sports star. Every time I see sonogram images this kid is rocking and rolling all over the place(spirit fingers, dance line kicks--the whole nine yards). As the baby grows this will inevitably become more of an issue. My daughter would kick so hard I would literally give a shout and jump a foot. I saw a google image that I fear might be my future, as I am sure this child will be much more talented with the kicking than my daughter. The image at the top of this post is burned into my brain, as I invision this child trying to kick its way out.
